Why I joined J1:

What I'm learning at the moment:

After seven years of working on client sites, and two working within our business, I am focusing on understanding our clients' needs strategically; how we can sustain our relationships and how we prepare for a future where AI supports our capabilities both professionally and personally.

What makes my journey remarkable day-to-day:

Working with clients whose values reflect our own, and being able to make a difference to them through delivery that meets their needs.

I love learning about Blockchain Technology where Accounting and Technology come together, pioneering Web3 and efficiencies in accounting and transaction rails.

Why I joined J1:

I joined J1 because the reason behind its existence resonated with me; the focus on providing the best experience possible for clients without putting the pressure of financial KPIs on me.

What I'm learning at the moment:

I am learning all things AI at the moment, and I've been heavily involved in testing and training our in-house AI product, Scout. Scout and I have gone from strangers forced to work together to a “pair”! I am also doing some scrum certifications to keep myself up to date on latest delivery stuff.

What makes my journey remarkable day-to-day:

People supporting me being me. My “driver” personality is very much mixed up with lateral thinking and sometimes quite out-there thought patterns which J1 not only recognises but encourages.

Why I joined J1:

I joined JourneyOne because it’s a place where curiosity, craftsmanship, and care genuinely matter. The culture is collaborative, the work is meaningful, and the people are top-notch. I was drawn to the idea of working with smart, grounded consultants who are passionate about making a real impact, without the ego or fluff.

What I'm learning at the moment:

A couple of things:

Client-side: I’m building a strategic architecture tool that supports frameworks like TOGAF and Zachman. I’m diving into React Router, Zustand, and complex UI design to support capability and scenario planning. It’s a great mix of architecture thinking and hands-on tech.

Personal: I’m exploring generative AI and how it can support storytelling and decision-making in architecture. I’m also tinkering with data visualisation to make complex ideas easier to grasp, because good visuals can shift conversations.

What makes my journey remarkable day-to-day:

It’s the variety and the purpose. One day I’m helping untangle legacy systems, the next I’m co-designing future-state models with clients. I get to work with brilliant minds, solve real problems, and see ideas take shape. The mix of strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, and genuine collaboration makes every day feel worthwhile.

Why I joined J1:

I joined JourneyOne as a graduate developer straight out of university. I happened to apply for a position at JourneyOne in my job hunt after graduating. It was only after looking into the company before the interview that I realised they did things a bit differently. After that interview, I was sold. Not only was it clear that delivering to their clients was a core principle, but the emphasis on personal journeys and self-improvement was outstanding.

What I'm learning at the moment:

As an experienced developer, my current focus is on refining my leadership and mentorship skills. I'm dedicated to guiding and inspiring development teams, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and effective problem-solving. Additionally, I'm exploring advanced technologies and project management methodologies to seamlessly align our technical solutions with strategic business goals. This ongoing journey of learning and growth keeps me enthusiastic and motivated.

What makes my journey remarkable day-to-day:

JourneyOne has managed to put me on jobs where I'm not just keeping the lights on. I'm always working on something exciting that requires me to step out of my comfort zone and learn new things to provide the optimal solution for the client. That is what makes the journey remarkable for me.

Why I joined J1:

I joined J1 because they are authentic and they walk the talk. They genuinely put their people first, which leads to remarkable outcomes for clients. As a single parent, it's important to me to I work for an organisation that truly cares for its people and supports them in practical ways. From the very first interview, I knew I had found my people!

What I'm learning at the moment:

I recently led a successful implementation of Microsoft Copilot for several hundred end-users, and this was another big learning curve for me. I've since obtained AWS AI Practitioner Certification. Before joining J1, I spent 20 years working in IT within the banking sector. I've now gained experience across the mining, aged care, and oil and gas industries, so I'm constantly learning, and there's always something new to explore!

What makes my journey remarkable day-to-day:

The level of support from everyone at JourneyOne is amazing. There are great communities whose purpose is to help people develop as well as help with specific challenges. You are never alone on your journey.

Why I joined J1:

I joined J1 because they are truly different. They focus on creating remarkable journeys for both their clients and staff - whatever ‘remarkable’ means to them. That might differ from person to person, and that’s the point - we take the time to understand what remarkable looks like for them, and then work hard to bring that to life.

What I'm learning at the moment:

I’m jumping into all things AI at the moment, trying to work out what it’s useful for, for both me and my clients. There’s a lot of hype and promises around AI and I’d like to know how we can use it responsibly as a tool to aid us, not replace us. Human and technology collaboration is a big thing for J1 and I’m also very much about that. I also dabble in 3D printing as a hobby and that’s been a fun and creative thing to get into recently.

What makes my journey remarkable day-to-day:

It’s the people I work with, both from J1 and our clients. I spend most of my time with clients so having a great group of people to work with every day, including working with other J1’ers directly, or having a strong and super helpful network of J1’ers to-hand to tap into to help me do my own job better, is very rewarding for me.
JourneyOne Trek Roles

Why conventional consulting titles aren’t enough

JourneyOne takes a different approach to assigning roles and assembling teams compared to many technology consultancies.

When organisations create teams, they tend to default to traditional titles: project manager, business analyst, enterprise architect, and so on.

However, there isn’t always a good understanding of the actual work these people need to perform, nor the type of person required for the role.

So, we don’t box ourselves in with traditional consulting titles. Instead, we’ve created Trek Roles.

What are JourneyOne's Trek Roles?

Trek Roles are based on strengths, expertise, and cultural fit with the client and journey in question. Creating our teams this way helps our people to grow and reach their full potential, and ensures that our clients get a team ideally suited to their journey.

The Journey Lead

Journey Leads are seasoned and confident in their role of guiding and overseeing Client Journeys. They ensure the goals are clear, then formulate the delivery approach; they delegate effectively, manage stakeholders, shield the team, and overall keep them moving forward. They engage regularly with the client to keep the relationship strong.

If anything goes off-track, the Journey Lead works closely with the team to get it back on the right road — and this means rolling up their sleeves to do the heavy lifting too. They are humble leaders who know when to ask for help and support from the wider JourneyOne team.

Fundamentally, they care about the people on the journey and are dedicated to making it remarkable for everyone involved.

The Solutioniser

Solutionisers are problem solving experts who thrive in complexity. Strategically minded, they articulate the solutions, identify the pivot points, and evangelise new approaches.

Solutionisers actively seek new ways of working and are perennially curious about leading-edge thinking. From this, they bring fresh ideas to their Client Journeys – and to JourneyOne’s internal learning programs and Communities – that stretch the boundaries of possibility.

While passionate about experimenting with new software technology, techniques and thinking, Solutionisers are pragmatists who balance innovation with quality and timely delivery.

The Driver

Drivers drive to objectives and thrive under pressure. Deliverable and deadline focused, they have the tenacity and courage to overcome whatever obstacles stand in the way. They are experienced in detecting and resolving conflicts while maintaining relationships.

Drivers excel at building, coaching and motivating high-performing teams. They challenge the team, but also work hard to help remove blockers and identify dependencies and risks.

Many JourneyOne Drivers are experts in agile delivery methods. They are passionate about ensuring their squads live and breathe the values, behaviours and practices of Agile. They shine at coaching teams on how to adopt a value-focused growth mindset in order to deliver value frequently.

The Actioner

Actioners are practical, reliable, and efficient. They take the ideas and turn them into them reality, doing whatever needs to be done. With strong attention to detail, they always spot the pitfalls, gaps and problems in good time.

Diligent by nature, they polish, perfect, and tidy the loose ends to ensure a remarkable journey and outcome.

Simply put, Actioners are the backbone of every remarkable journey.

The Builder

Builders are technical craftspeople who excel at creating systems, products and solutions. They cultivate expertise in development, engineering, and implementation, bringing architectural visions to life. Builders thrive on turning concepts into functional reality for users, whether creating new applications, integrating systems, or building technical infrastructure and platforms.

Able to balance the competing demand for velocity and quality, builders apply best practices, innovative approaches and automation to deliver sustainable solutions. They are collaborative and methodical problem-solvers who navigate complex technical challenges while maintaining a clear focus on business outcomes.
